Character Chat
Character chat lets you have a conversation with any character entity in your world. The character responds in character, drawing on their entity details and canon knowledge.
What it does
On an entity's detail page, you can open a chat interface and talk with that character as if they were real. The character stays in character based on their descriptions, personality, backstory, and the canon they are connected to. This is useful for developing characters, testing dialogue, and exploring your world from a character's perspective.
When to use it
- You want to test a character's voice and personality before writing scenes
- You are developing a character's backstory through conversation
- You want to explore how a character would react to events in your world
- You want to have fun interacting with the people of your world
How to use it
- Go to an entity detail page — Open a character entity
- Open the chat tab — Start a conversation with the character
- Set rules for the chat - you can specify rules if you want. This is a useful way to test how a character would respond on your Discord (e.g. "Never reveal your secret identity")
- Ask questions or set scenarios — The character responds based on their details and connected canon
- Refine the character — Use insights from the conversation to update the entity description
Tips and best practices
- The richer the entity description and canon connections, the more authentic the character responses
- Character chat is also available via Discord — assign characters to channels for community interaction
